Best Ways to Monetize Your Blog
One simple way to monetize your blog is to make your products easy to find on your blog. In other words…
Promote Your Products Prominently!
This simple tip isn’t always obvious. But you never know exactly where a person is going to land on your blog the first time, so you want to keep your product or store in view from all angles:
- Top Navigation Bar of Blog
- Blog Sidebar
- Blog Footer
Navigation Bar Example
Here’s an example from XOSarah.com’s blog. She has a SHOP (as well as a “Work with Me”) link at the very top of her home page:
Blog Sidebar Example
Here’s one of my own blog posts, where you can see the link that leads to my coaching and courses page. If a person likes the info on my blog, it’s very easy for them to see the link, and click on it.
Blog Footer Example
Melissa Griffin features her courses prominently on her blog footer, which can be seen while reading every blog post:

In other words, one easy way to sell products is to let people know that you have products to sell. Have a friend visit your site, and tell you how it was (or not) to find your product offerings. If they can’t find your eBook, course, or PDF printable easily, then make sure to move your course graphics to at least one of these prominent spots on your blog. And speaking of course graphics…
Create Thumbnail Pictures For Your Digital Products
eBook Cover – Create an eye-catching thumbnail picture for your digital product that can be seen in a smaller size (no fancy scripts!). Check Amazon.com to get best practices for the kind of images work. You can make the thumbnails yourself using Canva.com. If you’re not good at graphics, you can also hire someone on Fiverr.com
Online Course – For your online courses, create a mockup for your course by adding the course’s graphic to a mockup image of a computer monitor, desktop, laptop, tablet, etc. Canva.com offers these mockups in their “frames” section, which makes it easy as “drag and drop”!
PDF Printable – If you have a PDF printable, such as lesson plans, sheet music, sewing pattern, etc, create a cover for it, and display the graphic when promoting it. Use your brand colors and fonts. Your customers do not have to print the cover, but the image should catch the eye when someone is casually scanning your blog.
Pinterest Graphic PRO TIP
If you use Pinterest, be sure to create a Pinterest-sized graphic that you and others can pin and re-pin.
When adding a Pinterest graphic (aka “Pin”) to your WordPress media library, create a description for your pin with a call to action (visit your blog or re-pin the graphic) and add it to the image’s Alt Text section BEFORE adding the graphic to the blog post.
Doing this will add that info to your pic, and be seen on Pinterest automatically.
